Degar
The Degar people, also known as the Montagnards, are an indigenous group primarily found in the highlands of Vietnam. They have a rich cultural heritage, with distinct languages, traditions, and social structures. The Degar communities are known for their agricultural practices, often cultivating crops like rice and coffee in their mountainous regions.
Historically, the Degar have faced challenges, particularly during and after the Vietnam War. Many members of the Degar community supported the United States and, as a result, experienced persecution. Today, efforts are being made to preserve their culture and address their rights within the broader Vietnamese society.
