Decoying
Decoying is a strategy used in various fields, including marketing and psychology, to influence decision-making. It involves introducing a third option, known as a decoy, that is less attractive than one of the main choices. This decoy makes the preferred option appear more appealing, guiding individuals toward a specific decision.
In the context of consumer behavior, decoying can be seen in pricing strategies. For example, when a company offers three products—one high-priced, one low-priced, and a decoy priced close to the high-priced option—the decoy can make the high-priced product seem like a better value, encouraging customers to choose it over the others.
