Decompression Procedures
Decompression procedures are essential safety protocols used primarily in diving and aviation to prevent decompression sickness, also known as "the bends." These procedures involve gradually reducing pressure on the body after exposure to high-pressure environments, allowing gases dissolved in body tissues to safely escape.
In diving, divers ascend slowly and may make stops at specific depths, known as safety stops, to allow for proper gas exchange. In aviation, pilots may use controlled descent rates to ensure that passengers and crew can adjust to changes in atmospheric pressure without adverse effects.
