Daruma doll
A Daruma doll is a traditional Japanese talisman representing perseverance and good luck. It is typically made of papier-mâché and is hollow, round, and weighted at the bottom, allowing it to return to an upright position when tilted. The doll is often painted red and features a face with large, blank eyes.
The Daruma doll is modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism. When people receive a Daruma doll, they usually make a wish and color in one eye. Once the wish is fulfilled, they fill in the other eye as a symbol of gratitude.
