DarkSide
DarkSide is a ransomware group that emerged in 2020, known for targeting large organizations and demanding hefty ransoms in exchange for decrypting stolen data. They operate under a ransomware-as-a-service model, allowing affiliates to use their software for a share of the profits.
The group gained notoriety for high-profile attacks, including the 2021 cyberattack on Colonial Pipeline, which disrupted fuel supplies in the United States. Following increased scrutiny and law enforcement pressure, DarkSide announced its dissolution in May 2021, but its methods and affiliates continue to pose a threat in the cybercrime landscape.
