Dardanelles Strait
The Dardanelles Strait is a narrow waterway located in northwestern Turkey, connecting the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara. It is approximately 61 kilometers (38 miles) long and varies in width from 1.2 to 6.4 kilometers (0.75 to 4 miles). The strait is strategically important for maritime navigation and has been a significant route for trade and military movements throughout history.
Historically, the Dardanelles has been the site of numerous conflicts, including the famous Gallipoli Campaign during World War I. The strait serves as a natural boundary between the continents of Europe and Asia, making it a vital geopolitical area. Its waters are also rich in marine biodiversity, supporting various fish species and ecosystems.
