Damodar River
The Damodar River is a significant river in eastern India, flowing through the states of Jharkhand and West Bengal. It originates in the Chotanagpur Plateau and travels approximately 592 kilometers before merging with the Hooghly River, a distributary of the Ganges. The river is known for its rich coal deposits in the surrounding region, which have contributed to industrial development.
Historically, the Damodar River has been prone to flooding, leading to the construction of several dams and reservoirs, including the Damodar Valley Corporation projects. These initiatives aim to manage water resources, control floods, and generate hydroelectric power, benefiting the local communities and economy.
