Dakhma
A Dakhma, also known as a "Tower of Silence," is a traditional burial structure used by the Zoroastrian community. It is designed for the exposure of the deceased to the elements and scavenging birds, in accordance with their beliefs about purity and the afterlife. The practice aims to prevent the contamination of earth and fire, which are sacred in Zoroastrianism.
Typically circular in shape, a Dakhma consists of three concentric rings. The outer ring is for the bodies of men, the middle for women, and the innermost for children. This method of disposal reflects the Zoroastrian emphasis on maintaining environmental cleanliness and spiritual purity.
