DIC
DIC, or Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation, is a serious medical condition characterized by abnormal blood clotting throughout the small blood vessels in the body. This can lead to the formation of clots that block blood flow, resulting in organ damage. DIC often occurs as a complication of other conditions, such as severe infections, trauma, or pregnancy-related issues.
The condition can cause a paradoxical increase in bleeding due to the consumption of clotting factors and platelets. Symptoms may include bleeding from various sites, bruising, and organ dysfunction. Treatment focuses on addressing the underlying cause and may involve blood transfusions or medications to manage clotting.
