DHT (Hormone)
Dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, is a potent androgen hormone derived from testosterone. It plays a crucial role in the development of male characteristics, such as facial hair, deep voice, and muscle growth. DHT is also important for the growth of hair follicles, but its levels can influence hair loss in both men and women.
DHT is produced in various tissues, including the skin and prostate gland, through the action of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. While it is essential for certain bodily functions, excessive levels of DHT can lead to conditions like benign prostatic hyperplasia and male pattern baldness.
