DARPA Grand Challenge
The DARPA Grand Challenge is a series of competitions organized by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to promote the development of autonomous vehicles. Launched in 2004, the challenge aimed to advance technology in self-driving cars by encouraging teams to create vehicles capable of navigating complex terrains without human intervention.
The first event took place in the Mojave Desert, where no vehicle completed the course. However, subsequent challenges saw significant improvements, culminating in the 2005 event, where several vehicles successfully navigated a 132-mile course. This initiative has played a crucial role in the evolution of autonomous driving technology.
