D'Arcy McGee
D'Arcy McGee was an Irish-born Canadian politician, journalist, and poet, known for his significant role in the formation of Canada. Born on April 13, 1825, in Carlingford, Ireland, he emigrated to Canada in 1842. McGee was a key figure in the Confederation movement, advocating for the unification of the British North American colonies.
As a member of the House of Commons, McGee served as a strong proponent of Canadian nationalism and cultural diversity. He was also a talented writer, contributing to various publications. Tragically, McGee was assassinated on April 7, 1868, making him one of the first political figures to be murdered in Canada.
