Cystectomy
Cystectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the bladder. It is often performed to treat conditions such as bladder cancer, severe bladder dysfunction, or other significant bladder diseases. The surgery can be partial, removing only a portion of the bladder, or radical, which involves the complete removal of the bladder along with surrounding tissues.
After a cystectomy, patients may require a urinary diversion, which is a new way for urine to exit the body. This can involve creating a stoma or using a segment of the intestine to form a new bladder. Recovery and rehabilitation are essential for adjusting to these changes.
