Cyrene
Cyrene was an ancient Greek city located in present-day Libya, founded in the 7th century BCE by settlers from Thera. It became a prominent center of trade and culture, known for its rich agricultural land and the famous Cyrenean School of philosophy.
The city was also home to the Temple of Apollo, which attracted pilgrims and tourists. Cyrene flourished under Roman rule, becoming part of the Roman Empire in the 1st century BCE. Its ruins, including the impressive amphitheater and various temples, are now a UNESCO World Heritage site, reflecting its historical significance.
