Cycling History
Cycling has a rich history that dates back to the early 19th century. The first bicycle, known as the Draisine, was invented in 1817 by Karl Drais, a German inventor. This early model had no pedals and was propelled by the rider's feet pushing against the ground. Over the years, bicycles evolved, leading to the introduction of pedals and the familiar design we see today.
The late 19th century saw the rise of the safety bicycle, which featured equal-sized wheels and a chain drive, making cycling more accessible. By the 20th century, cycling became a popular recreational activity and sport, leading to the establishment of events like the Tour de France in 1903, which remains one of the most prestigious cycling races in the world.
