Curtiss SB2C Helldiver
The Curtiss SB2C Helldiver was a carrier-based dive bomber used by the United States Navy during World War II. Designed by Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company, it first flew in 1940 and entered service in 1943. The Helldiver was known for its distinctive gull wings and was capable of carrying a significant payload, making it effective against enemy ships and ground targets.
Despite initial criticism for its performance and handling, the SB2C proved to be a reliable aircraft in combat. It participated in key battles, including the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, contributing to the success of naval operations in the Pacific Theater.
