The Cueva de Altamira is a famous cave located in northern Spain, known for its remarkable prehistoric cave paintings. Discovered in 1868, it features vivid depictions of bison and other animals, created by early humans around 36,000 years ago. These artworks are considered some of the finest examples of Upper Paleolithic art. The cave is part of the Altamira National Park and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. Due to the fragility of the paintings, access to the cave is limited, but a replica, known as the Altamira Museum, allows visitors to experience the art without damaging the original site.
