Ctenomyidae
Ctenomyidae, commonly known as tuco-tucos, is a family of burrowing rodents found primarily in South America. These small mammals are characterized by their robust bodies, short limbs, and large front teeth, which they use for digging. They inhabit a variety of environments, including grasslands and scrublands, where they create extensive tunnel systems.
Tuco-tucos are social animals, often living in colonies. They communicate through a range of vocalizations and are known for their distinctive alarm calls. Their diet mainly consists of roots, tubers, and other plant materials, making them important contributors to their ecosystems by aerating the soil through their burrowing activities.
