Homonym: Crust (Bread)
The crust is the outermost layer of the Earth, where we live. It is made up of solid rock and is relatively thin compared to the layers beneath it. The crust is divided into large pieces called tectonic plates, which float on the semi-fluid layer below. These plates can move and shift, causing earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
There are two main types of crust: continental and oceanic. The continental crust is thicker and forms the landmasses we see, while the oceanic crust is thinner and lies beneath the oceans. Together, they create the surface of our planet, supporting ecosystems and human life.
