Croatan people
The Croatan people were a Native American group originally located in what is now North Carolina. They are often associated with the Roanoke Colony, which mysteriously disappeared in the late 16th century. The Croatan were known for their fishing, hunting, and farming skills, as well as their unique cultural practices.
Today, the descendants of the Croatan people are often linked to the Lumbee Tribe, which is recognized by the state of North Carolina. The Lumbee maintain aspects of their ancestral heritage while also advocating for their rights and recognition at the federal level.
