Cristina of France
Cristina of France (1606-1663) was a French princess and the daughter of King Henry IV of France and Marie de' Medici. She became the Queen of Sweden by marrying Gustavus Adolphus in 1620. Cristina was known for her intelligence and strong personality, often challenging traditional gender roles of her time.
After her husband's death in 1632, Cristina ruled Sweden as a regent. She was a patron of the arts and philosophy, inviting notable figures like René Descartes to her court. In 1654, she abdicated the throne and converted to Catholicism, moving to Rome where she continued her cultural pursuits.
