Cri Du Chat Syndrome
Cri Du Chat Syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by a deletion of a portion of chromosome 5. It is characterized by a distinctive high-pitched cry in infants, which resembles a cat's meow, hence the name. Other common features include developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, and physical abnormalities such as a small head and facial differences.
Individuals with Cri Du Chat Syndrome may also experience challenges with speech and language development. Early intervention, including speech therapy and special education, can help improve their skills and quality of life. While there is no cure, many individuals lead fulfilling lives with appropriate support.
