Cranial Fossae
Cranial fossae are depressions in the base of the skull that help support the brain and house important structures. There are three main cranial fossae: the anterior, middle, and posterior fossae. Each fossa corresponds to different parts of the brain, providing a stable base for the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem.
The anterior cranial fossa is located at the front and supports the frontal lobes of the cerebrum. The middle cranial fossa lies in the center and accommodates the temporal lobes and parts of the brainstem. The posterior cranial fossa is at the back and contains the cerebellum and the lower parts of the brainstem.
