Coxiella
Coxiella is a genus of bacteria known for causing the disease called Q fever in humans. It is primarily transmitted through inhalation of contaminated aerosols from infected animals, particularly cattle, sheep, and goats. The bacteria can also be found in animal products, such as milk.
The most notable species, Coxiella burnetii, is highly resilient and can survive in harsh environmental conditions. Infected individuals may experience flu-like symptoms, but many remain asymptomatic. Vaccination is available for those at high risk, such as veterinarians and livestock workers, to help prevent infection.
