Court of Star Chamber
The Court of Star Chamber was a court in England that operated from the late 15th century until the mid-17th century. It was established to ensure the fair enforcement of laws, particularly against the powerful who could evade justice. The court was known for its secretive proceedings and was composed of judges and privy councilors.
This court dealt with cases involving issues like corruption, conspiracy, and other serious offenses. It was named after the star-painted ceiling of the room where it met. The Star Chamber was eventually abolished due to concerns over its abuse of power and lack of transparency.
