Corsican History
Corsica, an island in the Mediterranean Sea, has a rich history influenced by various cultures. Initially inhabited by the Corsicans, it was later colonized by the Greeks and Romans. In the Middle Ages, it became a battleground for Genoa and Pisa, eventually falling under Genoese control, which lasted for several centuries.
In the 18th century, Corsica declared independence under the leadership of Pasquale Paoli, but it was soon annexed by France in 1769. The island has since maintained a unique identity, with ongoing movements for autonomy and preservation of the Corsican language and culture.
