Corixidae
Corixidae, commonly known as water boatmen, are a family of aquatic insects found in freshwater habitats worldwide. They are characterized by their elongated bodies, oar-like hind legs, and a distinctive swimming style that resembles rowing. Water boatmen primarily feed on algae and decaying plant material, playing a vital role in aquatic ecosystems.
These insects are often mistaken for backswimmers, another group of aquatic insects, but can be distinguished by their lack of a dorsal spine and their more flattened bodies. Corixidae are important indicators of water quality and contribute to the food web by serving as prey for various fish and birds.
