Coquí frog
The Coquí frog is a small, tree-dwelling amphibian native to Puerto Rico. It is known for its distinctive, high-pitched call, which sounds like "co-kee." This call is especially prominent during the mating season and can be heard throughout the night. The Coquí typically measures about one to two inches in length and has a brown or green coloration that helps it blend into its surroundings.
Coquí frogs play a vital role in their ecosystem by controlling insect populations and serving as prey for various predators. They thrive in humid environments, often found in forests and gardens. Due to habitat loss and environmental changes, some species of Coquí are considered threatened, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts.
