Contraceptive Sponge
The contraceptive sponge is a small, round device made of soft, porous material that contains spermicide. It is designed to be inserted into the vagina before sexual intercourse to prevent pregnancy. The sponge works by blocking sperm from entering the uterus and releasing spermicide to kill any sperm that may come into contact with it.
To use the sponge, a person must wet it with water and then insert it into the vagina, ensuring it covers the cervix. It can be left in place for up to 24 hours and should be removed after intercourse. The sponge is a non-hormonal contraceptive option.
