Confederate soldiers
Confederate soldiers were members of the military forces that fought for the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War from 1861 to 1865. They primarily came from the southern states and were motivated by various factors, including the defense of their homes, states' rights, and the preservation of the institution of slavery.
These soldiers faced numerous challenges, including harsh living conditions, limited supplies, and fierce battles against the Union Army. Many were volunteers, while others were conscripted. The Confederate military included infantry, cavalry, and artillery units, and their tactics and strategies were influenced by the geography and resources of the South.
