Confederate dollars
Confederate dollars were the currency issued by the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War from 1861 to 1865. These notes were printed to finance the war effort and were backed by the promise of future tax revenues and the value of land and slaves.
As the war progressed, the value of Confederate dollars plummeted due to inflation and lack of backing, leading to widespread economic hardship in the South. After the war, these notes became worthless, and the Confederate States were unable to redeem them, marking a significant financial failure for the Confederacy.
