Complutensian Polyglot
The Complutensian Polyglot is a multilingual edition of the Bible, published in the early 16th century. It was created under the direction of Cardinal Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros in Alcalá de Henares, Spain. This work features the Old Testament and New Testament in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin, allowing readers to compare the texts side by side.
Published between 1514 and 1522, the Complutensian Polyglot was the first of its kind, setting a precedent for future polyglot Bibles. It played a significant role in the Renaissance and the Reformation, promoting biblical scholarship and the study of ancient languages.
