Common Wood Nymph
The Common Wood Nymph is a butterfly species belonging to the family Nymphalidae. It is primarily found in wooded areas across North America, particularly in the eastern United States. The wings are brown with distinctive eyespots, which help to camouflage the butterfly among leaves and tree bark.
These butterflies typically have a wingspan of 1.5 to 2.5 inches. They feed on nectar from various flowers and are often seen fluttering near the ground. The larvae, or caterpillars, feed on grasses and other herbaceous plants, making them an important part of their ecosystem.
