Comet C/1995 O1
Comet C/1995 O1, also known as Hale-Bopp, is one of the most observed comets of the 20th century. Discovered independently by astronomers Alan Hale and Thomas Bopp in July 1995, it became visible to the naked eye in 1996 and remained bright for nearly 18 months.
This comet is notable for its large size and distinctive double tail, which is a result of the solar wind interacting with its gas and dust. C/1995 O1 reached its closest approach to the Sun on April 1, 1997, and was widely studied by both amateur and professional astronomers.
