Columbia-class Submarine
The Columbia-class submarine is a new class of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines being developed for the United States Navy. It is designed to replace the aging Ohio-class submarines and will enhance the U.S. strategic deterrent capabilities. The Columbia-class features advanced technologies, improved stealth, and increased payload capacity.
Each submarine will carry up to 16 Trident II (D5) ballistic missiles, which are capable of delivering nuclear warheads. The first Columbia-class submarine is expected to be delivered in the early 2030s, ensuring that the U.S. maintains a strong underwater deterrent for decades to come.
