Colombian Peace Process
The Colombian Peace Process refers to a series of negotiations aimed at ending decades of armed conflict in Colombia, primarily between the government and the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia). Initiated in 2012, these talks sought to address issues such as land reform, political participation, and drug trafficking, culminating in a peace agreement signed in 2016.
The peace agreement included provisions for disarmament, the establishment of transitional justice mechanisms, and the reintegration of former combatants into society. While the process has faced challenges, including violence from other armed groups, it represents a significant step towards achieving lasting peace in Colombia.
