Colombian Cartels
Colombian cartels are criminal organizations primarily involved in the production and trafficking of illegal drugs, particularly cocaine. These groups emerged in the late 20th century, with the most notorious being the Medellín Cartel and the Cali Cartel. They gained significant power and wealth by controlling the supply chain from Colombia to international markets, especially the United States.
The rise of Colombian cartels led to widespread violence and corruption, impacting both local communities and law enforcement. In response, the Colombian government, with support from the United States, launched various anti-drug initiatives to dismantle these organizations. While some cartels have been weakened, drug trafficking remains a significant issue in Colombia.
