College of Osteopathic Medicine
The College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) is a branch of medical education that focuses on training physicians to provide holistic care. It emphasizes a whole-person approach, considering the physical, emotional, and social aspects of health. Osteopathic physicians, or DOs, are trained to perform osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), which involves hands-on techniques to diagnose and treat various conditions.
COMs are part of a broader system of medical schools in the United States, with many affiliated with universities. They offer a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, which allows graduates to practice medicine, prescribe medications, and perform surgeries, similar to their allopathic counterparts, or MDs.
