Coccygeus
The coccygeus is a small muscle located at the base of the spine, specifically near the tailbone, or coccyx. It plays a role in supporting the pelvic floor and stabilizing the coccyx during movement. This muscle is part of the group known as the pelvic diaphragm, which helps maintain proper pelvic organ function.
In addition to its supportive role, the coccygeus assists in movements such as sitting and standing. It works alongside other muscles, including the levator ani, to provide strength and stability to the pelvic region. Proper function of the coccygeus is important for overall pelvic health.
