Coal Combustion
Coal combustion is the process of burning coal to produce energy. When coal is burned, it reacts with oxygen in the air, releasing heat. This heat is used to generate steam, which drives turbines to produce electricity.
During combustion, various gases and particles are released, including carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides. These emissions can contribute to air pollution and climate change. To mitigate these effects, technologies such as scrubbers and carbon capture are employed to reduce harmful emissions from coal-fired power plants.
