Cluster Munition
A cluster munition is a type of explosive weapon that releases or disperses multiple smaller submunitions or bomblets over a wide area. These weapons are designed to target large groups of enemy forces or equipment, making them effective for area denial and saturation bombing. However, they can also pose significant risks to civilians, especially if unexploded submunitions remain on the ground after a conflict.
Due to their potential for causing harm to non-combatants, many countries have signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM), which prohibits the use, production, and transfer of cluster munitions. This international treaty aims to reduce the humanitarian impact of these weapons and promote safer alternatives in warfare.
