Submunitions
Submunitions are smaller explosive devices that are released from a larger munition, such as a bomb or missile. They are designed to spread over a wide area, increasing the likelihood of hitting multiple targets. Commonly used in military operations, submunitions can include cluster bombs, which contain many smaller bombs, or anti-personnel mines.
These devices can pose significant risks, as they may not detonate upon impact and can remain dangerous long after a conflict has ended. This unexploded ordnance can lead to civilian casualties and hinder post-war recovery efforts, making the use of submunitions a controversial topic in international law and humanitarian discussions.
