Clay Soils
Clay soils are composed of very fine particles that are tightly packed together. This makes them dense and heavy, which can lead to poor drainage and slow water movement. Clay soils often retain moisture well, making them fertile and suitable for growing certain plants, but they can also become compacted, making it difficult for roots to penetrate.
Due to their high nutrient content, clay soils are often found in areas with rich vegetation. However, they can be challenging to work with in gardening and agriculture. Adding organic matter, such as compost, can improve their structure and drainage, enhancing their overall usability for growing crops and flowers.
