Classic Kaposi Sarcoma
Classic Kaposi Sarcoma is a type of cancer that primarily affects the skin and mucous membranes. It is characterized by the development of purple, red, or brown lesions, which can appear as spots or larger tumors. This form of Kaposi Sarcoma typically occurs in older adults, particularly those of Mediterranean or Eastern European descent.
The disease is linked to the human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8), which is often present in the lesions. Classic Kaposi Sarcoma usually progresses slowly and may not require immediate treatment unless the lesions become painful or affect the patient's quality of life.
