Cisapride
Cisapride is a medication primarily used to treat gastrointestinal disorders, particularly in patients with conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and gastroparesis. It works by increasing the movement of the stomach and intestines, helping to improve digestion and reduce symptoms such as heartburn and nausea.
Originally approved in the 1980s, Cisapride was later withdrawn from the market in many countries due to safety concerns, particularly its association with serious heart rhythm problems. Despite its withdrawal, it is still used in some cases under strict medical supervision, especially for patients who do not respond to other treatments.
