Churchill Barriers
The Churchill Barriers are a series of causeways located in the Orkney Islands of Scotland. Built during World War II, these barriers connect several islands, including Lamb Holm, Glimps Holm, and Burray. They were constructed to protect the naval base at Scapa Flow from enemy attacks.
Named after British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, the barriers were completed in 1945. Originally designed for military purposes, they now serve as vital roadways for local traffic and tourism, allowing visitors to explore the scenic beauty of the Orkney Islands.
