Chunyun
Chunyun, or the Spring Festival travel season, is the period around the Chinese New Year when millions of people in China travel to reunite with their families. This peak travel time typically lasts for about 40 days, starting 15 days before the New Year and ending 25 days after. It is considered the largest annual human migration in the world.
During Chunyun, transportation systems, including trains, buses, and airplanes, experience heavy demand. Many people book tickets in advance to secure their journeys home, leading to crowded stations and long wait times. The surge in travel is a significant cultural event, emphasizing the importance of family in Chinese society.
