Chromosome 2
Chromosome 2 is one of the 23 pairs of chromosomes found in humans. It is the second largest chromosome, containing about 243 million base pairs, which make up roughly 8% of the total DNA in human cells. This chromosome plays a crucial role in various biological functions, including the development of the brain and the immune system.
Interestingly, Chromosome 2 is believed to have formed from the fusion of two smaller chromosomes that are still present in some other primates, such as chimpanzees and gorillas. This fusion is a key piece of evidence supporting the evolutionary relationship between humans and other primates.
