Chromoplast
Chromoplasts are specialized organelles found in plant cells that contain pigments, giving fruits and flowers their vibrant colors. Unlike chloroplasts, which are involved in photosynthesis and contain green pigments, chromoplasts can produce yellow, orange, and red pigments, such as carotenoids. These pigments play a crucial role in attracting pollinators and seed dispersers.
Chromoplasts develop from chloroplasts as plants mature, especially in ripening fruits and aging flowers. They help in the storage of pigments and can also contribute to the overall health of the plant by providing protection against environmental stressors.
