Cholangitis
Cholangitis is an infection of the bile duct system, which can occur when bile flow is blocked, often due to gallstones or strictures. This condition can lead to inflammation and can be serious if not treated promptly. Symptoms may include fever, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), and abdominal pain.
Treatment typically involves antibiotics to fight the infection and procedures to relieve the blockage, such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). If left untreated, cholangitis can lead to severe complications, including sepsis, making early diagnosis and intervention crucial for recovery.
